What is Hopi Ear Candle therapy?

Hopi Ear Candle Therapy is a non-invasive holistic treatment that promotes physical and mental health by relieving pressure and congestion in the ear canal. The practice, also known as Ear Coning and Thermal Auricular Therapy, has been used for thousands of years and is regaining popularity now as an alterative to medical intervention.

What are Hopi Ear Candles made of?

Hopi Ear Candles cylindrical, straw-like tubes, made from cotton soaked in beeswax. They are infused with natural herbs and minerals that aid the healing process. This formula has been used for thousands of years.

Are Hopi Ear Candles safe?

Yes.

Ear candles offer a safe, non-invasive treatment option. It is suitable for young children, and the elderly.

There are a number of contra-indications for Ear Candling, where the treatment should not be used. Read more about this here http://easewax.com/2018/04/20/when-to-avoid-ear-candling/

How far into my ear will the candle go?

The candle only enters the entrance of your ear, not the middle or inner ear. It goes about 1cm / ¼ inches into your ear. No further than the tip of your finger can reach.

Will the candle pull out chunks of ear wax?

No, this is a common misconception of Ear Candling, and one that has unfortunately led to some health professionals disputing its effectiveness.

The Ear Candles do not “stick” to the ear wax and pull it out of the ear like a clogged pipe.

Instead, the treatment is more subtle. It gently warms and softens excess wax, drawing it away from the sides of the ear canal. The “chimney” effect, created inside the hollow candle as it burns, creates a small amount of pressure that draws wax and impurities towards the entrance of the ear. The wax can then be removed manually.

I have an ear infection, can I use Hopi Ear Candles?

No.

Ear infections are one of the contra-indications to Ear Candling. If you have an infection you should speak to your doctor and get prescribed medication to clear up the problem. Untreated ear infections can lead to irreparable hearing loss.

Once the infection and inflammation has cleared you can use Hopi Ear Candles to help with the healing process and boost your immune system.

Can I use Hopi Ear Candles at home?

Yes!

When ear candling at home make sure you understand all the contra-indications, and follow the instructions carefully. You should always have someone with you to help when using Ear Candles at home.

Is Ear Candling better than Ear Irrigation?

In many ways, yes.

Ear Irrigation, or Syringing, involves squirting jets of water into your ear to dislodge compacted earwax. This can put pressure on the eardrum, risking a rupture to the membrane, and in some cases, can exacerbate conditions such as tinnitus.

Ear Candling on the other hand puts no pressure on the ear drum. Nothing is forced into the ear, instead wax and impurities are softened and drawn out using gentle heat and pressure.

Is there a risk of burning?

The honest answer is yes. You are dealing with a lit candle and so yes, there is always a risk of burning.

However, this fact is often blown out of proportion by critics of the Ear Candling Treatment.

Hopi Ear Candles are not like wax candles. They burn very slowly with a small flame and relatively low heat. Ear candles come with filters, to protect from sediment falling into the ear canal, and a protective disc that covers the face and eyes. It is recommended that you keep hair tied or pinned back away from the ear, and candles come painted with a red safety line that indicates when the candle should be extinguished.

As with any delicate procedure, injury occurs when it is not done correctly.

When Ear Candling is done carefully and properly, it is very safe.

What does Ear Candling feel like?

Ear Candling is very relaxing. You will be lying comfortably on your side with the candle placed vertically in your upper ear.

Once lit you will hear the crackling, popping sound of the candle burning down. You will also feel a warm, gentle massaging feeling in your ear. It is very peaceful and pleasant.

Most Ear Candles contain extracts – like peppermint found in EaseWax Hopi candles – which let off lovely aromas, aiding relaxation.

Many people fall asleep during the treatment – though this is not recommended if you are doing it yourself at home!

When the candle is removed most people experience an immediate release of pressure. Their ears and sinuses feel clearer and in many cases their hearing and other senses are improved.
